Lyve
canvas is a premium quality, museum grade fine
art inkjet canvas that delivers market leading print
quality and longevity for stunning looking prints that
last. Manufactured in the USA by Breathing
Color, Lyve inkjet canvas is sold exclusively by
Paper & Canvas Ltd in the UK and is regarded worldwide
by many leading publishers, artists and photographers
as simply the finest available.
What makes this inkjet
canvas so special?
Lyve
inkjet canvas is OBA free and still delivers leading
colour, black density and detail for visibly better
prints.
Most inkjet
canvas products on the market use Optical
Brightener Agents (OBA’s) including our Economize
800M inkjet canvas. OBA’s improve print quality
by artificially increasing the white point of the canvas
but unfortunately they do not last forever and will
stop working once exposed to a certain amount of UV
light. When this starts to happen the once bright white
canvas becomes less and less white and can appear to
turn cream and/or yellow.
Lightfastness of the inks is only one aspect of longevity;
acidity, water resistance and OBA’s are also significant
issues that affect the life span of any print. The affect
of OBA’s is of course more critical on unprinted and
light coloured areas of a print.
If a canvas turns yellow, potentially within weeks,
does it really matter that the inks will apparently
last decades without fading?

Are OBA’s acceptable in a
décor/photo inkjet canvas?
We think yes, as long as the printmaker is aware of
them and is comfortable that the product suits the market
that they are selling into. Every other
high white inkjet canvas on the market contains
OBA’s. See our Economize
800M.
Are OBA’s acceptable in a
fine art inkjet canvas?
No. In our opinion OBA’s should be avoided in your fine
art inkjet canvas now that the same or sometimes
better print quality is available without them. Limited
edition Giclees, fine art reproductions and fine art
and professional photography should be printed on archival
certified, OBA free, pH neutral and water
resistant canvas in order to ensure the long term
integrity of the print and businesses involved.
To sum up
There are many inkjet
canvas products on the market but they are by no
means equal. Printmakers should consider their own requirements
and of course make the right choice for their own business.
We intend that by providing accurate and open information
that our customers are better able to do this for the
benefit of their business and the print industry as
a whole.
